This is simply the process of evaluating yourself honestly.
PA as I call it is taking an honest inventory of your life, reflecting inwardly, and looking around you outwardly to see if you are truly living your beliefs, values, plans and goals.
It is important because it helps you know and determine where you are coming from, where you are and if you have made any progress in your life.
We all have plans, goals, we live by from day to day, year to year and it is upon this we create our beliefs and values.
Usually at the beginning of the year there is a high momentum and enthusiasm, and we are on high horsepower, to set goals, make plans, strategize- but in the year due to many occurrences of which some we do not have control over and others we do. We lose track and cannot stick to our commitments and plans.
We procrastinate on getting back on track, but the year rolls by before our eyes and before we know we adjust to it and give up on our plans, goals, and dreams.
The mountain of the backlog of the unaccomplished plans and failed aspirations can be very burdensome, and we end up feeling down, stressed, depressed, and procrastinating goes on.
Why is personal appraisal important?
- It helps you stay motivated.
- It helps you reframe your life in a clearer perspective.
- It lays before you’re the choice on where to go from where you are.
- It will help you identify self-defeating habits that need to be broken and how they have affected you.
- It will help you improve your mindset; you will be able to honestly identify thinking patterns that are limiting to you.
- It will help you clarify your values and beliefs – Values are fundamental beliefs that guide and motivate our actions and attitudes.
A woman who does not have time to pause and do a personal appraisal from time to time, will arrive at any destination that life brings her to, she cannot control or navigate the ship of her life in the direction she wants to go to. This can lead to frustration.
Personal appraisal includes all areas of life.
- Physically
- Spiritually
- Socially
- Financially
- Business
- Academically
- Family
Every woman needs to create the time to do this especially because we have so much on your plate and need to know what is working for you and channel more energy in that direction and whatever is energy draining or unproductive will need to be let go.
This process will require you to cut out sometime out of your schedule, thirty minutes to an hour, in a quiet environment, with a journal to notate your findings.
some key questions you will be asking yourself in this time will be:
- What are the time wasters around you?
- What goals do you have for your life?
- What are your values and beliefs?
- What is holding you back from being your best you
- What are some limiting beliefs that you need to deal with?
- What steps are you ready to take to make your life better?
- What goals do you want to accomplish that you have been putting off?
- What are you ready to do differently?
You are the navigator of your life’s journey – so take an overview every so often – make sure you are planning and heading where you want to go – not just living the day to day and just keeping your head above water.
Final words, even after you do a personal appraisal, even though it seems like there were more failures than success from your result, do not be discouraged, you get up, dust yourself and keep moving
